PROPOSED RESTORATION OF MIXED-USE SITE
SHORTLISTED IN THE 2024 JERSEY DESIGN AWARDS FOR 'BEST UNBUILT SCHEME'
This Planning approved project sees the proposed remodelling and refurbishment of an existing dilapidated mixed-use site. The restoration and rationalisation of the ground floor restaurant and commercial units, and upgrade and extension of the existing 6 N° residential units into 11 apartments above will transform this tired and unloved site. The wholesale redevelopment will sensitively restore the site’s existing Listed Buildings and carefully enhance its visual presence within the traditional context. The improved commercial and residential accommodation will provide a significant environmental and functional upgrade and provide a catalyst for the improvement in this neglected area.
The proposals include the rationalisation of the principal restaurant facility, absorbing the adjacent commercial use and enhancement to the delivery, servicing and ancillary spaces to the rear. The residential accommodation above will be remodelled around a central landscaped courtyard that provides for dual aspect accommodation, which significantly helps to promote a feeling of wellness. The existing Listed Buildings will be retained and restored, to remain in full positive use. The other retained structures will also be improved with sensitive adjustments to restore and improve the historic referencing and contribute positively to the urban streetscape.
