THE LODGES

Les Ormes Golf & Leisure Village

CREATION OF JERSEY'S FIRST SELF-CATERING LODGE PARK

ST. BRELADE

COMPLETED 2008

A strategic gap was identified in the local tourism market, which led to Riva Architects being commissioned to evolve a bespoke timber lodge design which was specifically tailored to Jersey. Research was carried out into the proportions and dimensions of historic fisherman’s cottages, and the Huts found on the reefs off the Jersey coast, Les Ecrehous and Les Minquiers. The 24 lodges were generally grouped together and were integrated by the screens which formed the primary structure of the landscaping. Although the entire site was lowered by some 1 metre, a Construction Environmental Management Plan was evolved in-house which ensured the mitigation of the potential damage caused to the sensitive surrounding environment. Certain lodges were singled out for special treatment. A feature lodge was elevated onto stilts while another was located adjacent to a pond which houses the protected agile frog. Elsewhere measures were implemented to encourage the green lizard and the red squirrel. Measures were implemented to improve the environmental performance of the lodges.

In 2019 the lodge park was revisited and extensions were introduced to provide an extra bedroom to the majority of the units.
